United's under-18s are well beaten in Manchester
Dave Watson rested many of the stars of Wednesday night's cup win against Sunderland, but welcomed Elias Sorensen back from injury.
And it was the Danish striker who had the first opportunity of the match, racing through on goal but seeing his effort smothered by Arijanet Muric.
From then on, though, City were on top and Ian Carlo fired against the woodwork after a strong run.
And in the 20th minute, the home side took the lead through Lorenzo Gonzalez after Phil Foden played him in on goal.
Five minutes later, Foden got on the scoresheet himself and almost straight from the restart, Matt Smith curled home a third.
And just before the break, Gonzalez made it 4-0 to the Citizens.
United rallied somewhat after half-time, and Mo Sangare was thwarted by Muric before Sorensen again came close, but there were no further goals for either side.
