Newcastle United Under-18s suffered a narrow 1-0 home defeat against their Blackburn Rovers counterparts in the Under-18 Premier League North on Saturday.
Brandon Powell's long-range strike proved to be the difference at the Magpies' Little Benton Academy as the Toon Teenagers were unable to find an all-important breakthrough in front of goal, distinguishing their hopes of a third successive league victory on home soil.
Newcastle's youngsters were bidding for back-to-back league wins after an impressive 6-1 away triumph against Wolverhampton Wanderers and had also netted six times in their previous home fixture against Leeds United's under-18 side, prevailing in a ten-goal classic.
However, in the 32nd minute, Rovers took the lead through Powell as the Rovers full-back spotted teenage goalkeeper Adam Harrison off his line before firing an audacious attempt from distance into the net.
Graeme Carrick's side were unfortunate not to draw level before the half-time break as Anthony Munda's close-range effort clipped the post, denying the midfielder a fourth league goal of the 2022/23 campaign at under-18 level.
The young Magpies were unable to salvage a positive result in the second-half and currently occupy 11th place in the North section of the Under-18 Premier League and will face an away trip to Derby County in their next league encounter on Saturday, 4th March (kick-off 1pm GMT).
