Newcastle United Under-18s suffered a heavy 7-2 home defeat against local rivals Sunderland in the Under-18 Premier League North on Saturday.
The Toon teenagers conceded twice in the Tyne-Wear derby at United's Little Benton Academy following strikes from Mason Cotcher and Jake Waters before Ollie Harrison's close-range tap-in halved the deficit on the stroke of half-time.
However, three goals in the space of seven second-half minutes from the visitors, courtesy of Ethan Moore, Cotcher and Will Dowling's penalty, extended the Black Cats' advantage further.
Dowling's low effort shortly after the hour mark compiled more misery on the hosts before Sunderland substitute Louie Salkeld scored a seventh for the Wearsiders in the closing stages of the contest.
Scott Bailey pulled a goal back for Newcastle in stoppage-time but the effort would only prove a mere consolation on a difficult afternoon for United's youngsters.
