Newcastle United Under-18s suffered a heavy 5-1 away defeat against their Manchester United counterparts in the Under-18 Premier League North on Saturday.
The Toon teenagers fell behind inside three minutes at Carrington following Ruben Curley’s deflected finish before Ethan Wheatley’s penalty doubled the hosts’ advantage ten minutes later.
Shea Lacey’s strike extended the Red Devils’ lead before Travis Hernes, who joined the Magpies from Shrewsbury Town last month, netted his first goal for the club at under-18 level in an eventful opening half hour.
Curley, however, regained Manchester United’s three-goal cushion shortly after the restart before Lacey’s strike in the closing stages rounded a difficult afternoon for United’s youngsters, ending their three-game unbeaten league streak.
