Newcastle United Under-18s recorded a third successive home win in the Under-18 Premier League North following an eventful 3-0 victory against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon.
Following a goalless first half at the Magpies’ Little Benton Academy, with Yvan Junior Nsangou’s penalty hitting the crossbar for the visitors, 16-year-old winger Trevan Sanusi opened the scoring within two minutes of the restart on his home debut for Newcastle at under-18 level after joining United’s youth set-up from Birmingham City this month.
Sixteen-year-old goalkeeper Aidan Harris, who was named on the bench for the Magpies’ goalless UEFA Champions League draw against AC Milan on Tuesday, preserved the hosts’ lead minutes later after saving Zack Stritch’s spot-kick.
A dramatic spell followed as Joe Brayson’s penalty doubled the hosts’ advantage towards the hour mark before Darren Palmer’s third goal of the season at under-18 level added gloss to the scoreline, with the Toon teenagers recording their first clean sheet of the 2023/24 season in the process as Graeme Carrick’s side moved into third place.
Newcastle’s youngsters face a trip to Under-18 Premier League North leaders Manchester United in their upcoming fixture on Saturday, 30th September at Carrington (kick-off 12.30pm BST).
