Farid Alfa-Ruprecht's late strike condemned Newcastle United Under-18s to a 2-1 defeat against their Manchester City counterparts in the Under-18 Premier League North on Saturday.
Newcastle fell behind on the stroke of half-time at the Little Benton Academy following Luca Fletcher's strike from the edge of the box.
Graeme Carrick's side, however, drew level in the 85th minute courtesy of Darren Palmer's impressive finish, firing the ball into the left-hand corner from Sean Neave's inviting cutback.
United's youngsters were delivered a tough blow seconds later as Alfa-Ruprecht restored City's one-goal cushion, racing through on goal following a perfectly weighted through ball before firing home.
