Newcastle United Under-18s were held to a draw in the Tyne-Wear derby at Sunderland on Saturday.
Joe Brayson's 11th-minute opener put United in front early on on Wearside and Graeme Carrick's side held the advantage until six minutes before the break, when the Black Cats' Luke Bell bundled home to level the scores.
But just five minutes after the restart, and after goalkeeper Matty Young had kept out the first attempt, Darren Palmer pounced to put the young Magpies back in front.
Palmer's effort wasn't quite enough for Newcastle to secure victory over their local rivals, though, as with quarter of an hour left substitute Joe Neild equalised, meaning Carrick's charges had to settle for a point - a result which sees them stay in fifth place in the Under-18 Premier League North section.
