Adam Wilson broke the deadlock after just 41 seconds before second half strikes from Rosaire Longelo, Elias Sørensen and Yannick Touré sealed an emphatic victory in South Wales.

Newcastle's youngsters headed into the division two clash on the back of two cup clashes, drawing with Hull City in the Premier League Cup before beating Newcastle Benfield on penalties in the Northumberland Senior Cup quarter-finals.

The young Magpies were aiming to leapfrog their Welsh opponents with a victory and keep their play-off hopes alive and it was the visitors who got off to a perfect start as Wilson netted inside the opening minute of the contest.

After capitalising on a number of defensive errors, Wilson was on hand to drill the ball past Swansea goalkeeper Lewis Webb from close range, netting his second goal of the season in the process.

Newcastle continued to push for a second goal before the half-time break and were unfortunate not to double their advantage as Longelo's cross from the byline fell into Touré's path but the Swiss forward could only steer his close-range effort past the post.

Swansea were unbeaten in their previous five league games but it was the Magpies who extended their lead in the 56th minute through Longelo.

After an excellent solo run from Touré, which began inside his own half, the teenage striker advanced past a group of Swansea defenders on the left wing before teeing up Longelo, who slotted the ball into the bottom right-hand corner.

In the 68th minute, Elias Sørensen added gloss to the scoreline as the Denmark under-21 international notched his first competitive goal for Newcastle's under-23 side.

Following a string of passes, the ball fell kindly to Sørensen, who spent the first half of the season at Carlisle United, and the 20-year-old make no mistake from ten yards out, firing the ball beyond Webb.

In the 79th minute, Touré rounded off the contest with United's fourth of the afternoon following an impressive counter-attack, with Sørensen sliding the ball across the penalty area towards Touré, who rifled the ball into the roof of the net to cap off a terrific league win for Ben Dawson's side.

The win leaves United's youngsters four points adrift of the final play-off spot, with Newcastle's next league fixture taking place on Valentine's Day against local rivals Sunderland at St. James' Park.
