The Ivory Coast staged a late comeback in their final Africa Cup of Nations Group game to draw 2-2 with Algeria.
But Cheick Tiote was an unused substitute as head coach Sabri Lamouchi rested some of his stars with the Elephants already through to the knockout stages after winning their opening two games.
By contrast, Algeria were already out but - having already missed a spot-kick - surged into a two-goal lead through a Sofiane Feghouli penalty and Hilal Soudani.
However Dider Drogba pulled one back and Wilfried Bony equalised as Tiote, together with the likes of Yaya Toure and Gervinho, looked on from the bench.
Ivory Coast topped Group D with seven points and will play Group C runners-up Nigeria in the quarter-finals on Sunday.
