Stand-in skipper Jonas Gutierrez admits it is a bittersweet feeling being asked to captain Newcastle United.
The Argentine has led the Magpies out in four of their six Premier League fixtures this term, something which he describes as a "big honour", having never been given the role at any of his previous clubs.
But it comes at the expense of fellow countryman, close friend and regular captain Fabricio Coloccini, who has struggled with a couple of hamstring injuries this term.
Gutierrez admits he is learning as he goes in his temporary position and is relishing the responsibilities that accompany it.
"Yes, of course, to be captain is a big honour for me," the midfielder told nufc.co.uk.
"But I also don't like it because our captain is Colo, so when I am wearing the armband it means he is not playing!
"That is not good because everyone knows how good a player Colo is for us.
"But I do enjoy being captain of Newcastle. I have never been a captain before so I am enjoying it and trying to do my best.
"You have more responsibilities and I am trying to lead the team, to talk with the players and to improve myself every game."
