Peter rediscovers scoring touch during 3-2 win over Hartlepool

By Craig Hope

PETER Lovenkrands rediscovered his scoring boots for Newcastle United Reserves on Tuesday night, and afterwards admitted that he had loved of every minute of the 3-2 victory over Hartlepool United.

Without a start in more than four weeks, the Dane was included in Alan Thompson's second-string in a bid to sharpen his match fitness ahead of Monday's trip to Preston North End.

And Lovenkrands, who has not netted since the 3-1 win over Middlesbrough at the end of last season, responded with a goal as he slid home from close range to bring the score to 1-1 just before the half-hour mark.

"It was nice to score and, to be honest, I loved every minute of it," the 29-year-old told nufcTV.

"I was pleased to be playing and was really looking forward to it before the game.

"To get a goal really helps the confidence as well.

"It was good to get through 80 minutes and that's excellent for my fitness.

"I hope to be involved at Preston on Monday now because I feel great after that run out."
