Danny Compared To Former Favourites

KK likens new boy Guthrie to Lee and Bracewell
By Craig Hope
TOON boss Kevin Keegan has given new boy Danny Guthrie an early confidence boost by comparing him to former Magpie favourites Rob Lee and Paul Bracewell.
The 21-year-old has been training with his United team-mates for the first time this week and already looks right at home in the black and white camp.
And the comparison to Lee and Bracewell, who starred in Keegan's "Entertainer" team of the mid-90s, is high praise indeed given the pair's popularity during their time on Tyneside.
Speaking to nufcTV at the club's training ground this week, KK said: "Young Danny Guthrie, he's a little bit of a mix, for the older fans, between Paul Bracewell and Rob Lee.
"He's that type of player. Good engine, a very good passer of the ball. A link-up player who can get around the field and of course in the Premier League you need that.
"And over time he'll probably learn to play in a defensive-midfield holding position.
"Both of those signings (Guthrie and Gutierrez) I'm really pleased with.
"Obviously, the whole world knows that the squad is too small. Every Newcastle fan and the people at the club know that.
"But getting the right players in was always going to be tough because there is a lot of competition for good players."
