CANADIAN defender David Edgar is confident he will be fit to play in next month's Under-20 World Cup despite an abdominal injury keeping him out his country's recent warm-up matches.
The 20-year-old, who was Canadian Young Sportsman of the Year in 2006, has told a newspaper in his homeland that he expects to be OK by the time the hosts face Chile in Toronto on July 1.
Edgar said: "I should be fine. There's no tear, the doctors and I think it's an abdominal strain.
"It was just a certain movement which did it and I thought at the time it was my groin.
"Luckily, the tests show it wasn't. It was more of an abdominal thing and I'm fine now."
After the Chile game, Canada face Austria on July 5 and DR Congo three days later, both in Edmonton.
Edgar, who scored a memorable equaliser against Man Utd on his home debut last season, signed a new two-year at St.James' before heading home to link up with the Canadian squad for their World Cup preparations.
