Goalscorer Gouffran: 'Point Taken'

Yoan Gouffran's goal earned Newcastle a point at West Bromwich Albion but the Frenchman admitted they could have had all three

Yoan Gouffran scored his second goal for Newcastle United to earn the Magpies a valuable point at West Bromwich Albion - but was disappointed not to come back with a win.
He glanced home from Papiss Cisse's cross after eight minutes to give Alan Pardew's side the lead at the Hawthorns in a first half which they dominated.
The visitors really should have had more than a 1-0 lead to show for their performance in the opening 45 minutes and were pegged back by Billy Jones' 64th minute equaliser.
Nonetheless, with Wigan losing to West Ham, the draw moved Newcastle a point closer to safety and Gouffran spoke to nufc.co.uk after emerging from the away team dressing room.
"Of course I'm happy to have scored, but I really would like to have won the game," the January signing from Bordeaux said.
"It was very, very good, the first half. It reminded me of our game against Aston Villa - my debut - when we played very well.
"We did very good in the first half on a lot of occasions and we scored a goal.
"We had a lot of pressure, which was good, but unfortunately in the second half they scored early so it was a different picture.
"Their goal helped them a lot because the crowd woke up after the goal so it was difficult in the second half. We had other situations to score but unfortunately we didn't."
United dropped to 16th but are now six points clear of the bottom three and Liverpool come to St. James' Park next weekend with Newcastle knowing that a win against the Reds could all but guarantee their top flight status for next season.
And he said: "We will try to give everything in the Liverpool game to ensure that we stay in the Premier League."
