Haris Vuckic and Shane Ferguson were unable to fire Rangers back to the top flight as they suffered a 3-0 defeat at Motherwell in the second leg of the Scottish Premiership play-off final.
Having lost the first leg 3-1 at Ibrox last week, it was always going to be a tough task for the Gers to turn the tie around.
But after a goalless first half at Fir Park, Marvin Johnson broke the deadlock before a couple of efforts from Lionel Ainsworth and John Sutton put the game well out of Rangers' reach.
Vuckic and Fergsuon were both handed starting spots for the visitors - the latter making his full Rangers debut.
Northern Ireland international Ferguson lasted 55 minutes before being substituted, while Slovenian schemer Vuckic played the full 90 minutes and was booked.
That result brings and end to Rangers' season and therefore completes the loan spells of five United players who spent the second half of the season on loan at Ibrox.
Vuckic scored an impressive tally of nine goals in 22 appearances for the Gers, while Ferguson and defender Remie Streete featured twice and once respectively.
Fellow Magpies Gael Bigirimana and Kevin Mbabu did not play for the Rangers first team during their time north of the border.
