Alan Pardew believes Newcastle are close to turning round their recent poor run of form, after impressing against Man City

Alan Pardew believes his Newcastle United side are close to turning round their recent poor run of form, after an encouraging display against Manchester City on Saturday.
The Magpies went down 3-1 at St. James' Park, but that failed to tell the full story as they stood toe to toe with the Premier League champions for large parts and, on another, day could have been celebrating at least a point.
As it was, goals from Sergio Aguero, Javi Garcia and Yaya Toure put them to the sword, with top scorer Demba Ba netting for United at 2-0 to give them a glimmer of hope.
The defeat means just one win in eight top flight fixtures, but Pardew is confident that a good run of results is just around the corner.
"We had some great performances and are not far away," the manager told nufcTV.
"I've been on runs like this with teams where you don't look like you are going to score, and that is a worry. But we look like we've got bags of goals.
"We created so many chances and on another day we would have got two or three.
"It's that little bit of resilience, stop giving away soft goals at important times, and things could change.
"We had a fantastic go at it. With the crowd starting to make an impact because we were making an impact, we got a goal.
"There were then two big chances for an equaliser - Demba in the six-yard box from the corner and Papiss Cisse right in the middle of the goal, where you would expect him to score.
"They were just holding on really and trying to hit us on the break, and in their first real attack (of the second half) they scored. That decided the game really."
