With the World Cup finals in Brazil taking place next summer, Moussa Sissoko has returned to Newcastle United with an extra incentive to perform well for the Magpies during the season ahead.
The man from Le Blanc-Mesnil has eight caps for his country so far and knows that a strong campaign could well see him chosen for Didier Deschamps' Les Bleus squad for the biggest tournament on the planet.
Last season, he played in an advanced role and scored three goals to help the Magpies secure top flight safety but while at former club Toulouse he earned comparisions with Patrick Vieira for his displays as a holding midfielder.
Sissoko insists that he doesn't care where he plays - but admitted that he's determined to make a big impact in the months ahead after returning to United's Benton training centre for pre-season testing on Friday.
The powerful 23-year-old told nufc.co.uk: "The manager played me as a number ten for a large part of last season and I'm very happy to play there. But next season we'll see what happens. We'll see what the manager wants, see where he wants me to play.
"I'll try and adapt the best I can but the objective for me is just to come out and have a good season personally because next summer is a World Cup year.
"So I want to to try and play well. I'll be motivated so I can get into a good position personally to try and attack the French national team and get into the squad.
"I have rested up to make sure I come back on top form."
