Sol In Squad As Chelsea Head For St. James'

Written by Newcastle Utd

Sol Campbell is again included in second-string squad for Thursday's game against Chelsea

By Dan King

Sol Campbell is set to make his third outing for Newcastle Reserves as they welcome Chelsea to St. James' Park on Thursday night.

The defender has completed 45 minutes against Sunderland and 60 minutes against Liverpool, and will now be looking to get further minutes under his belt against The Blues.

Campbell was an unused substitute for the first-team against Blackpool on Saturday but is pushing for a place in Chris Hughton's side for the match with Everton at the weekend.

Also included in Peter Beardsley and Steve Stone's side for the Barclays Premier Reserve League game are Tamas Kadar and Nile Ranger, while Tim Krul is set to start between the posts despite Ole Soderberg's saves which helped United earn a point against Liverpool last time out. Brad Inman is out with an ankle injury.

Joan Edmunsson is back from international duty with the Faroe Islands, while Patrick McLaughlin and Shane Ferguson have also been away with Northern Ireland under-21s. Fabio Zamblera is also available after suffering an injury in the warm-up last time out which prevented him from starting.

The squad is as follows: Tim Krul, Ole Soderberg, Paul Dummett, Stevie Folan, Ben Tozer, Sol Campbell, Jeff Henderson, Tamas Kadar, Matthew Grieve, Ryan Donaldson, Joan Edmundsson, Greg McDermott, Shane Ferguson, Patrick McLaughlin, Conor Newton, Haris Vuckic, Sammy Ameobi, Phil Airey, Nile Ranger, Fabio Zamblera.

Entry is free at St. James' Park and kick-off is at 7.05pm, to accomodate ChelseaTV coverage.
