Yohan Cabaye will miss Saturday's match against Southampton - but admits that his absence could not be better timed.
The French midfielder picked up his fifth booking of the season in last weekend's victory over Manchester United, meaning that he'll serve a one-match ban against the Saints.
He scored the winner at Old Trafford while he was also influential as France dramatically qualified for the World Cup finals and, although any side would miss a player of his quality, Cabaye believes he will return better than ever for the rest of 2013.
And, with Cheick Tiote in superb form and Vurnon Anita showing his quality once again against the Red Devils - not to mention the likes of Hatem Ben Arfa, Jonas Gutierrez and Sylvain Marveaux waiting for a chance - Alan Pardew will not be short of options.
Speaking to nufcTV, Cabaye said: "I'm going to relax because, with the national team, I'm starting to be a bit tired.
"So I'm going to enjoy my week, to stay relaxed and get some treatment, because I need it."
The former Lille captain also gave his thoughts on Les Bleus' draw for this summer's tournament in Brazil. Didier Deschamps' men will face Switzerland, Honduras and Ecuador in Group E.
"We could get worse, but it's not going to be easy," said Cabaye.
"They deserve to play, of course, at the World Cup as well. I don't know so much about Ecuador and Honduras but it's going to be hard so we have to be focused on that and don't play relaxed.
"We have to play with the right mentality and to win the games because we want to go through to the last 16."
