Carroll's first day in pictures

Andy Carroll became Newcastle United’s fifth and final signing of the summer 2019 transfer window on Thursday, rejoining his boyhood club eight-and-a-half years after his departure.

The forward – who left for Liverpool in 2011, before joining West Ham permanently in 2013 – made an emotional return to St. James’ Park, penning an initial one-year deal with the Magpies.

Carroll was the second arrival of the day, following the signing of Swedish full back Emil Krafth, and took some time to take in the familiar surroundings as his second spell with United was confirmed.

The nine-cap England international frontman also sat down with NUFC TV for the first interview since his return, and posed for some photographs around the stadium in which he first made his name.

Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery from Carroll’s first day back in black and white.
