Rochdale win in pictures

Newcastle United progressed to the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup on Tuesday night after beating Rochdale 4-1 at St. James' Park.

The League One side had forced a replay following a 1-1 draw at the Crown Oil Arena ten days earlier, but Steve Bruce's side were much more clinical second time around and were three goals up after 26 minutes.

Dale defender Eoghan O'Connell turned a teasing Matt Ritchie cross into his own net before Matty Longstaff scored his third goal of the season, then Miguel Almirón continued his fine run of form with his fourth strike in seven games.

In the second half, youngster Tom Allan was introduced for his first team debut and he wasted no time in teeing up Joelinton for his second goal of the campaign - and his first at St. James' Park.

Although the visitors grabbed a late consolation through MJ Williams, it was a thoroughly satisfactory night for United, with Jamaal Lascelles making his return from injury and Ritchie shining on his first start for four months. Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery.
