Toon in training: Back on the grass

Having returned to the club's Benton base on Thursday for testing, Newcastle United's players were back out on the training pitches for the first time on Friday.

The group looked to be in good spirits as they returned to action, with Academy head of coaching Ben Dawson and Under-23s head coach Neil Redfearn continuing to oversee first team training with the process of appointing a new manager ongoing.

Sean Longstaff has recovered sufficiently from the knee ligament injury he suffered in March to join in with the main part of the session, although his rehabilitation continues to be closely monitored by the club's medical staff.

Miguel Almíron, Fabian Schär, Martin Dúbravka, Christian Atsu and Freddie Woodman remain on an extended break having been on international duty over the summer while Florian Lejuene is continuing his recuperation following injury. Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery.
