Toon in training: Buzzing for the Bees

Newcastle United will look to reach a cup semi-final for the first time since 2005 when they take on Brentford in the Carabao Cup's last eight on Tuesday evening.

And although Steve Bruce is still without several key players after the Covid-19 outbreak which has hindered the Magpies' preparations all month, the United head coach will take a strong squad to the new Brentford Community Stadium as be bids to become the first manager to take Newcastle to a league cup semi-final since Gordon Lee in 1976.

Federico Fernández did not train on Monday - he was substituted at half time due to fatigue after only recently recovering from coronavirus - while it has now been confirmed that Jamaal Lascelles and Allan Saint-Maximin have also been suffering from the virus, with neither training as a result of its longer term effects.

However there was a welcome return to the training pitches for Martin Dúbravka. The Slovakia international suffered a heel injury in pre-season, but is getting closer to full fitness. Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery.
