Toon in training: Motivated Magpies ready for a big week

Two home games this week could have a big bearing on Newcastle United's season, and Eddie Howe has been back on the training pitches with his players in recent days after recovering from Covid-19.

Norwich City make the long trip to Tyneside on Tuesday night before Burnley visit Gallowgate at the weekend, but United's full focus at this stage is on the Canaries clash at St. James' Park (kick-off 7.30pm GMT).

Captain Jamaal Lascelles and the influential Matt Ritchie are both suspended after picking up their fifth bookings of the season at Arsenal on Saturday, so Howe will have to make at least two changes to his starting XI. And that meant every player was desperate to impress in training on Monday, with the squad clearly in good spirits despite their current position in the table.

Dwight Gayle trained after missing out at the Emirates due to injury, while Jacob Murphy and Jamal Lewis will be keen to face their former club, and Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery from the Magpies' wintry Benton base.
