Dean on duty for Brentford trip

Mike Dean will be the referee for Newcastle United's maiden Premier League trip to Brentford on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

United return to the capital, following last week's 1-1 draw against West Ham United at the London Stadium, aiming to extend their unbeaten league run to seven matches when they take on Thomas Frank's Bees.

It will be the third time the Wirral-born referee has officiated a Premier League fixture involving the Magpies this term after overseeing United's 1-1 draw at home to Leeds United in September along with a 3-1 defeat away at Liverpool in December.

Dean, a Select Group referee since 2000, booked four players during the Magpies' league contest against the Whites, including Matt Ritchie and Miguel Almirón, before booking the same number in Newcastle's loss against Jürgen Klopp's Reds, handing out yellow cards to Ryan Fraser, Isaac Hayden and Joelinton

The former FIFA listed referee has taken charge of 19 competitive fixtures during the 2021/22 campaign across the Premier League, Championship and Emirates FA Cup, showing a total of 61 yellow cards and one red - sending off Watford's Emmanuel Dennis during the Hornets' 3-0 home defeat against Norwich City.

On Saturday, Dean will be assisted by Eddie Smart and Mark Scholes while Andy Madley will be the fourth official.

Darren England will be the VAR, and will be assisted by Derek Eaton.
