East to referee Watford clash

Written by Tom Easterby

Roger East will referee Newcastle United’s Premier League game against Watford on Saturday afternoon (3pm kick-off).

United travel to Vicarage Road for their penultimate away game of the 2017/18 campaign, which will see East take charge of a Newcastle game for just the second time this season.

His first came just over two months ago when the Magpies were held to a 2-2 draw at AFC Bournemouth, with former United midfielder Dan Gosling grabbing the equaliser for the Cherries at the Vitality Stadium in February.

In total, 52-year-old referee East has officiated in 27 matches this term, including fixtures in the Premier League, Championship, League One and the FA Cup.

The Wiltshire whistler has shown 89 yellow cards in those fixtures, as well as three red cards, and will be assisted by Simon Beck and Andy Garratt this weekend.

Meanwhile, Lee Probert will be the fourth official for Newcastle’s clash with the Hornets.
