England to referee Magpies' visit of Arsenal

Darren England will be the referee for Newcastle United's final Premier League home game of the 2021/22 season against Champions League-chasing Arsenal on Monday night (kick-off 8pm BST).

Eddie Howe's side host the Gunners at St. James' Park in the Magpies' penultimate fixture of the 2021/22 campaign and this will be the second time England has officiated a game involving Newcastle this term.

The Doncaster-born whistler was the man in the middle for Newcastle's 1-1 draw away at Crystal Palace in October, brandishing seven yellow cards at Selhurst Park, booking Jamaal Lascelles, Matt Ritchie, Callum Wilson and Joelinton.

Promoted to the Select Group in August 2020, the 37-year-old was then added to the 2022 FIFA List of International Match Officials in December 2021.

In the 20 games England has refereed so far this term, across the Premier League, Championship, FA Cup and Carabao Cup, he has shown a total of 82 yellow cards and one red card, sending off Brentford's Shandon Baptiste during the Bees' 2-0 away win against Wolves in September.

On Monday evening, England will be assisted by Ian Hussin and Dan Robathan while Craig Pawson will be the fourth official.

Jarred Gillett will be the Video Assistant Referee and will be aided by Nick Hopton.
