Following the appointment of Eddie Howe as Newcastle United's new head coach, we take a further look at the profile of the 43-year-old.
- Eddie Howe was born on 29th November, 1977 in Amersham, a town within Buckinghamshire, and began his professional playing career at AFC Bournemouth after progressing through the club's youth system.
- The former defender made over 200 competitive appearances in the first of two playing spells for the Cherries before departing for Portsmouth in March 2002 under Harry Redknapp's management.
- After sustaining two long-term knee injuries, Howe made a mere two appearances for Pompey in a forgettable two seasons at Fratton Park, returning to Bournemouth on loan in 2004 before later completing a permanent switch to the then League One club.
- Following a further three years at Dean Court, which included coaching the club's reserve team, Howe confirmed his retirement in the summer of 2007 but made another return to Bournemouth as a youth coach before taking over as caretaker manager following Jimmy Quinn's sacking.
- Hired as the permanent coach in January 2009, entering as the youngest manager in the Football League aged 31, Howe impressively brought Bournemouth out of the League Two relegation zone, despite beginning the season on minus 17 points, and gained promotion to League One during the 2009/10 campaign.
- Howe was announced as Burnley's new manager in January 2011, finishing eighth in the 2010/11 Championship season, before departing the Clarets in October 2012 to rejoin Bournemouth for a second stint as manager.
- Another promotion campaign followed for Howe after guiding Bournemouth into the Championship, finishing runners-up in 2012/13, before leading the Dorset-based outfit to the Premier League for the first time in the club's history after winning the 2014/15 Championship title.
- Following three promotions in a seven-year period, Howe was named the Football League Manager of the Decade in 2015.
- Bournemouth remained in the Premier League for five consecutive years under Howe's supervision, finishing ninth during the 2016/17 campaign. Howe also won three Manager of the Month awards as well as managing 190 fixtures for the south coast club in the English top-flight.
