Galloway: "The club's ambitions match mine"

Written by Joseph Nelson

New Newcastle United Women striker Bridget Galloway says she sees her move to the Magpies - following her departure from Barclays Championship side Durham Women - as a "step forward".

The 23-year-old, who also has experience in England's youth set-up, joins Newcastle for their upcoming season in the FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division.

Speaking to nufc.co.uk following her arrival, the forward was in buoyant mood.

"It's amazing," she said. "The club's ambitions match mine and I am looking forward to getting started with the girls.

"I saw the direction that the club was going in. Becky (Langley) was great. Her ambitions that she set out are what I want to achieve - going for promotion. I see it as a step forward and I want to get promoted."

Galloway is one of several additions Langley has made to her squad this summer, and the player believes that by bringing in players with experience of the third tier and above, Newcastle can kick on this term.

"I think I can make a big difference out on the pitch," she declared. "Go and score loads of goals, get the job done, put the ball in the back of the net.

"We can drive the levels in training and push each other on. We can bring the motivation that we've got and help each other out. Everyone will be a role model to one another."

The former Durham forward has also played for Sunderland Ladies in the past and says it is pleasing to reunite with some familiar faces in the Newcastle squad.

"All the girls have been lovely, credit to them all," she added. "They've welcomed me straight into the squad.

"I have played with some of them previously, growing up in the academy set-ups, so it's great to reunite with them again.

"We've already got those relationships built on how we play. It will be good to see how far we've come from when we were younger."
