Inside Sunday's matchday programme...

There’s a golden touch to Sunday’s issue of UNITED – the Magpies’ official matchday programme – as a new era at St. James’ Park begins in earnest.

Homegrown midfielder Sean Longstaff takes centre stage, adorning the front cover and opening up on a testing period away from the pitch in an exclusive, seven-page interview.

Steven Taylor is the latest former Magpie to take part in Q&A Revisited, in which we bring back to light some of the quick-fire interviews undertaken by United stars over the years and then see how many of their answers remain the same in the present day.

Goalkeeper Mark Gillespie discusses dead legs and deer in this week’s edition of The Toon Tombola, while Toonament History – the brand new feature in which we take a look back at the Magpies’ connections to football’s two biggest major tournaments – continues with a look at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, in which 19 former United players were involved.

This week’s guest column, meanwhile, comes courtesy of basketball pro – and former tennis star – Josh Ward-Hibbert, who also happens to be close friends with Newcastle skipper Jamaal Lascelles.

Club Historian Paul Joannou remembers United’s Edwardian “inner circle” in 140 Years of Action, while regular columnist Stan Gate provides a further four pages of nostalgia in Programme Matters. Young defender Remi Savage provides our latest Academy Diary – reflecting on events on and off the pitch at Little Benton – while we find out a little more about Newcastle United Women’s Lois Greenslade.

If you’re not able to make the game, you can still order your programme online – available on Curtis Sport’s website here.
