International round-up: Fraser strike snatches point for Scotland

Ryan Fraser was on target for Scotland on Sunday, earning his country a point in their World Cup qualifier in Israel.

The Newcastle United winger started for Steve Clarke’s men but Dor Peretz’s strike meant they went in trailing at the break in Tel Aviv.

But ten minutes after the restart, Fraser fired home from outside the area to mark his 15th international appearance with his third goal.

The former Bournemouth man was replaced by Southampton’s Stuart Armstrong with four minutes remaining, and could now feature against the Faroe Islands on Wednesday prior to his return to Tyneside.

Elsewhere, young midfielder Elliot Anderson made his debut for England Under-19s over the weekend as he featured in their 6-1 friendly win over an Arsenal XI.

Anderson linked up with the Young Lions for a training camp ahead of the friendly match, having previously represented Scotland as a youngster.

Ciaran Clark was also in action over the weekend, but his Republic of Ireland side were beaten 1-0 by Luxembourg in Dublin.

Centre half Clark started and finished the World Cup qualifier for Stephen Kenny’s men, while Jeff Hendrick remained on the bench, but Gerson Rodrigues’ late winner sealed a surprise victory for the visitors.

Meanwhile, Jamal Lewis came off the bench for Northern Ireland as they were beaten 2-1 by the USA in a friendly at Windsor Park.

Ian Baraclough’s men were 2-0 down by the time full back Lewis was introduced in place of former Magpie Shane Ferguson on the hour, but despite Niall McGinn pulling a goal back they couldn’t quite snatch a draw.

Martin Dúbravka, meanwhile, was missing from the Slovakia side which drew 2-2 with Malta in their qualifier on Saturday, as the goalkeeper was given time to recover from illness.

And Emil Krafth was an unused substitute for Sweden, as they earned a comfortable 3-0 away win over Kosovo in another World Cup qualifier.

United Under-23s defender Oisin McEntee was named on the bench for Eire Under-21s’ 2-1 friendly win over Wales on Friday night, but wasn’t called upon to make a substitute appearance.
