International round-up: Man of the match Fraser helps Scotland seal win

It was a busy evening of international action for a handful of Newcastle United’s first team squad on Sunday, with Ryan Fraser earning the man of the match award as Scotland secured victory over Slovakia.

Fraser lined up at Hampden Park as Steve Clarke’s men took on Slovakia, who were without the services of the injured Martin Dúbravka, in the UEFA Nations League.

And the Magpies winger played a part in the only goal of the game, as he fed Stephen O’Donnell whose centre was converted by Lyndon Dykes ten minutes after the break.

The win puts Scotland top of Group B2 with Fraser, who picked up BT's man of the match award for his efforts in attack, withdrawn five minutes from time.

It wasn’t such a good night for Jamal Lewis, though, as the United full back played 90 minutes for Northern Ireland in their 1-0 defeat to Austria.

Michael Gregoritsch’s winner separated the sides in Belfast, as Lewis’ side remain bottom of their group.

And it was a largely uneventful night for Jeff Hendrick, who was in action for the Republic of Ireland against Wales.

The midfielder played the full game for Stephen Kenny’s side, who drew 0-0 and were reduced to ten men when James McClean saw red in the closing stages.

Emil Krafth didn’t make it off bench during Sweden’s 2-1 defeat in Zagreb, but fellow defender Fabian Schär continued his comeback from injury with a 90-minute outing in Switzerland’s 1-0 Nations League loss to Spain in Madrid.

And further afield, Achraf Lazaar was an unused substitute for Morocco as they beat Senegal 3-1 in a friendly in Rabat.
