Jonás Gutiérrez, the former Argentina international who made more than 200 appearances for Newcastle United, has announced his retirement at the age of 38.
The Sáenz Peña-born midfielder had been playing for Primera B Nacional side Club Almagro in his home city of Buenas Aires, but Monday's match against Ferro Carril Oeste was his last as a professional.
He joined the Magpies from RCD Mallorca in July 2008 and although the club were relegated in his first year at St. James' Park, he stayed loyal and helped Chris Hughton's side bounce back at the first attempt by winning the Coca-Cola Championship.
In that 2009/10 season, supporters were treated to his 'Spiderman' celebration for the first time, as he pulled on a mask and fired imaginary webs into the crowd.
In September 2014, Gutiérrez revealed that he had been diagnosed with testicular cancer, but made an emotional return to action for the Magpies as a substitute against Manchester United at St. James' Park in March 2015.
And two months later, he secured hero status by memorably scoring against West Ham as Newcastle escaped relegation on the final day of the campaign - only to leave the club shortly afterwards.
He signed for Deportivo de La Coruña, where he spent one season, before returning to Argentina with the likes of Defensa y Justicia, Independiente and Banfield.
But he will always be fondly remembered by Newcastle fans, and everybody at the club wishes him well for the future.
