Langley impressed with 'maturity' of Newcastle Women

Newcastle United Women manager Becky Langley praised the resilience of her side after the Lady Magpies came from behind to record a commanding 4-1 away win against Merseyrail Ladies on the opening day of the FA Women's National League Division One North season.
The newly-promoted side took an early lead in the fixture, but Newcastles character shone through as first-half goals from Lauren Robson and Georgia Gibson, and a second-half brace from debutant Ellie Dobson, sealed the win for Langley's side.
"I think we showed real maturity in the second half to make sure we got the win," said the United boss. "I thought we were always the better team. I was really proud with how the girls performed."
In addition to the manner of the victory, Langley was pleased to begin the season by winning away from home - something she believes could prove pivotal this season.
"It's absolutely crucial (to win away)," she said. "It's tough coming to places when they've got a home following, and today we were playing on an uneven grass pitch. It was tough.
"But we are going to have to be able to get points away from home. We dropped six points away from home last season, so we just need to make sure we aren't dropping any."
Newcastle Women play their first home fixture of the season on Sunday, hosting Stockport County Ladies at Kingston Park.
Looking ahead to the highly anticipated clash at the 10,000-capacity arena, Langley shared her excitement.
"We are absolutely buzzing for Kingston Park," she said. "I think getting the quality of the stadium, the feel of it all, the professionalism (is great). We're just hoping we can get 10,000 people through the gate."
But despite the buzz surrounding the fixture, the Newcastle Women boss maintains that the task for her side remains unchanged.
She said: "For us, we are just taking one game at a time. We aren't getting carried away.
"We know how hard we had to work for every point last season, so it's no different (this year). There's no extra pressure. (We just need to) do our job, every week."
Tickets for the game will be available on the gate, priced at £3 for adults and £1 juniors and concessions. Newcastle United Women season tickets, including all home league and cup games, are priced at £30 for adults and £15 for juniors and concessions, and are available to buy here.
