Langley vows to set Chorley record straight this Sunday

The Lancashire outfit held United to a 1-1 draw on Tyneside almost exactly 12 months ago before recording a 2-1 victory at Blainscough Park in April, a result which effectively cost Newcastle the title as they missed out by three points despite winning their final two matches of the campaign. 

"They're tough opponents," Langley said. "They were really dangerous from set pieces last season, so we know that'll be their threat.

"Last season, they took four points off us in the league. That was the difference between us getting promoted and not, so we want to put that right."

Newcastle Women host the North West side at Kingston Park this Sunday, looking to bounce back from the action-packed 4-3 defeat to Hull in their last home outing - although they did win away at Middlesbrough Women last week.

Despite the Lady Magpies falling to their first loss of the season, Langley is pleased with the way her side has started the new campaign.

"I think (we've had) a really positive start, winning three out of four games," she said. "The game we lost, we should have managed the game a lot better and got a win out of that one as well.

"We've had a lot of injuries to contend with and I think we are managing really well as a group of players and staff. We're all looking forward to the challenge against Chorley on Sunday."

Langley added that she expects some members of her squad to be available for selection in the coming weeks, as they return to match fitness.

"I think Emma (Wallis), Jane (Harland) and Erin (Nelson) are all coming back in the next couple of weeks," she revealed. Wallis in particular is someone who Langley is eager to see in action for the Lady Magpies, having signed for the club only this summer.

"It's been fantastic to have Emma training with us in the last week - she's an exciting player from Ipswich Town Women," Langley added. "We are really looking forward to getting those players back on the pitch to further strengthen (our squad)."

Looking ahead to the venue for Sunday's fixture, the Newcastle Women boss reiterated her gratitude for the support of the Lady Magpies' fans.

She said: "It's incredible seeing that we are getting bigger crowds than teams in the league above us. We've got to just keep giving fans a product that they want to come and watch and give them a facility that's professional.

"It's really important that we have that 12th woman (behind us)."

Tickets for the game will be available on the gate, priced at £3 for adults and £1 juniors and concessions. Newcastle United Women season tickets, including all home league and cup games, are priced at £30 for adults and £15 for juniors and concessions, and are available to buy here.
