Loan Watch: Magpies duo on target

A look at how Newcastle United's loan players got on at the weekend, featuring a first professional goal and a crucial top flight equaliser...

Chris Wood

The New Zealand international was sent on by Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper in the 79th minute as his side sought a leveller against Manchester City, who led at the City Ground through Bernardo Silva.

And Wood duly delivered, tapping home Morgan Gibbs-White's low cross six minutes from time to register his first goal for the club he joined last month and secure them a valuable point against the reigning Premier League champions in the process.

Lucas De Bolle and Dylan Stephenson

It was a productive afternoon north of the border for the young duo, with De Bolle's first senior strike just after half time putting Hamilton Academical in front in their Scottish Championship clash at Inverness.

Stephenson entered the fray just before the hour and though De Bolle was withdrawn with just under 20 minutes left, frontman Stephenson stepped up to provide an assist for Jean-Pierre Tiehi's strike ten minutes from time.

Connor Smith wrapped up a convincing 3-0 win late on, with the United youngsters playing their part well.

Dan Langley

Langley was between the posts as Spennymoor Town drew 2-2 at home to Scarborough Athletic in the National League North, playing the full game.

Niall Brookwell

And versatile former Liverpool man Brookwell also got 90 minutes under his belt at the weekend, playing the full game as Darlington were beaten 2-1 at Leamington.

Jay Turner-Cooke

There was a start in League Two for Turner-Cooke as Tranmere Rovers faced Mansfield Town at home, but with the Stags leading 2-0 he was withdrawn just before the 60-minute mark.

Joe White

In League One, Exeter were a goal down and had been reduced to ten men by the time White was summoned from the bench with quarter of an hour remaining, but he couldn't prevent them from being beaten 1-0 at Port Vale.

Garang Kuol

Australian teenager Kuol arrived as a second half substitute for Hearts at Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership, but couldn't help his side get back into the contest as they were beaten 2-0.

Jeff Hendrick

Hendrick had been in good form for Reading in the Championship, but missed the Royals' 1-0 defeat at Cardiff City through illness.

Karl Darlow

Goalkeeper Darlow was an unused substitute in Hull City's 0-0 stalemate with Preston North End.

Ciaran Clark

And defender Clark also didn't make it off the bench as Sheffield United were beaten 3-2 at Millwall on Saturday.
