Magpies players auction Champions League shirts for Newcastle United Foundation

Newcastle United supporters could get their hands on unique Magpies memorabilia as part of a special auction of matchworn shirts following Wednesday's UEFA Champions League match with AC Milan.

The shirts branded with Newcastle United Foundation's logo on the lower back - will be issued to players for the crucial Group F game before being donated to the charity afterwards and placed in an online auction.

The shirts featuring Newcastle United Foundation branding and a larger white panel on the reverse to accommodate squad numbers, are not available to buy in stores, meaning supporters will be bidding on truly rare items.

Supporters will be able to take part in the auction of match-issued UEFA Champions League shirts with proceeds going to Newcastle United Foundation here.

The auction will go live from kick-off on Wednesday evening, before closing on 24th December at 2pm GMT.

The proceeds will support Newcastle United Foundation's wide range of community programmes, with the independent charity enhancing the lives of more than 69,000 people across the North East each year.

Earlier this month, the Foundation teamed up with Newcastle United to launch the second 'Helping Hands at Christmas' campaign following the initiative's huge impact in 2022.

In addition to a number of campaign pledges, the Foundation will open its doors to provide a warm, safe space for the community at its NUCASTLE building during the festive period, offering a range of activities and provisions for people of all ages.

Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles said: "Newcastle United Foundation is incredible, and the players are so proud to support its work and to witness the difference it makes in the city.

"We hope that donating these special shirts will give fans a chance to own a part of history, and by bidding, they will know they are donating to an amazing cause that genuinely changes lives."

An independent EY report calculated the Foundation generated £30.9m in social benefits in 2021/22, delivered in health and wellbeing, education and skills and wider community impacts.

Steve Beharall, Newcastle United Foundation's CEO, added: "We are honoured and delighted the players have committed to such a generous gesture in support of our charity work while also giving supporters the opportunity to own a piece of club history.

"For every £1 the Foundation receives, 98p is invested directly into charitable activities, stretching each pound as far as possible to create positive change in Newcastle and across the North East.

"It is with the profile and support of Newcastle United that our charity can continue to inspire and connect communities to achieve their potential.

"We cannot thank the entire team and Newcastle United enough for their generosity."

Newcastle United Foundation is one of the UK's leading community-club organisations, delivering close to one million hours of activity every year through more than 40 individual programmes with the purpose of improving people's lives.

"We hope that donating these special shirts will give fans a chance to own a part of history, and by bidding, they will know they are donating to an amazing cause that genuinely changes lives."
