Match officials confirmed ahead of Liverpool visit

John Brooks will referee Newcastle United's Premier League clash with Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday 27th August
Newcastle United vs Liverpool
St. James' Park
Kick-off 4:30pm BST
Ticket details

United welcome the Reds to Tyneside hoping for a second home victory of the campaign after the 5-1 thrashing of Aston Villa at St. James' Park a fortnight ago, with Brooks handed the responsibility of keeping order.

The 33-year-old is one of the less seasoned officials currently on the top flight circuit having only made the step up from the EFL in 2021 after almost a decade in the lower divisions, including time spent as an assistant referee.

His first Premier League outing was a game between Wolves and Burnley at Molineux in November 2021, and last term the Leicestershire official took charge of three matches involving the Magpies last season - the 5-1 home win over Brentford, the 1-0 Carabao Cup victory over Bournemouth and the 3-0 away reverse at Aston Villa.

So far this term, he has been appointed to referee four matches. Two of those have been Premier League fixtures, and the other two have come in the early rounds of the Europa Conference League.
