Match officials confirmed for Carabao Cup quarter-final

Robert Jones has been appointed as the referee for Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup quarter-final clash at Brentford on Tuesday evening (5:30pm kick-off).

Jones, who has spent much of the last few seasons officiating Championship games, will be the man in the middle as the Magpies look to book their place in the last four at the new home of the Bees – the Brentford Community Stadium.

Cheshire official Jones rose quickly through the refereeing ranks, taking charge of the 2018 League One play-off final at Wembley and going on to earn a first outing in the top flight in the game between Brighton and Sheffield United a year ago.

Last term Jones refereed 34 games across the Championship, League One, League Two, the FA Cup and Carabao Cup and, while he issued a total of 114 yellow cards in those games, he didn’t show a single red card.

That record has continued into this season, with Jones issuing ten yellows but no reds in his five outings so far – two of which have come in the Premier League. Jones has kept his red card in his pocket since April 2019.

He will be assisted by Simon Beck and Harry Lennard on Tuesday, with Graham Scott acting as the fourth official.
