Eddie Howe's side head into the cup tie aiming to secure a positive result to book their place in a first domestic cup final since 1999 and were victorious in their first leg encounter against the Saints, with Joelinton's strike securing a 1-0 win at St Mary's Stadium.

This will be the second time Tierney has officiated a game involving the Magpies this term as the Lancashire whistler was the man in the middle for Newcastle's 4-0 win against Aston Villa at St. James' Park in October, booking two players that afternoon as well as awarding a penalty to the hosts, converted by Callum Wilson.

In 2021, the Wigan-born official took charge of the Carabao Cup final between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, while refereeing four games involving United last term - the 2-2 draw with Southampton, a 3-0 defeat against Chelsea, the 1-0 win over Burnley and the 1-1 draw with Watford, all staged at St. James' Park.
