Match officials confirmed for Carabao Cup tie

Written by Luke Vinton

John Brooks will be the referee for Newcastle United's Carabao Cup fourth round trip to Newport County on Wednesday evening (kick-off 5.30pm BST).

The Leicestershire-born official will be the man in the middle for the Magpies' cup tie against the League Two outfit as Steve Bruce's side bid to reach the quarter-finals of the competitions with a win at Rodney Parade.

Brooks, who joined the FIFA International Referees List as an assistant referee in 2015, began refereeing in the National League, the fifth tier of English football, but is yet to referee a Premier League fixture.

In the four games Brooks has officiated so far this term, including three Championship outings and a Carabao Cup second round tie, he has shown a total of 12 yellow cards and zero reds.

On Wednesday, Brooks will be assisted by Stuart Burt and Simon Bennett, while Stephen Martin will be the fourth official.
