Match officials confirmed for City clash

Robert Jones will referee Newcastle United's Premier League clash with reigning champions Manchester City on Saturday night.

Saturday 19th August
Manchester City vs Newcastle United
Etihad Stadium
Kick-off 8pm BST
Ticket details

The Magpies - who currently sit top of the table after their 5-1 thrashing of Aston Villa in their first outing of the campaign - head to the Etihad for their first away game of the new season, with Jones appointed for the fixture.

Merseyside official Jones made his top flight debut in 2019, having started officiating in the EFL during 2016/17 - the season United won the Championship title.

Last term he was a Premier League regular, taking charge of three games involving Eddie Howe's side. All three of those matches ended in Newcastle victories - the 1-0 home win over Chelsea in November, the victory over Fulham by the same scoreline at St. James' Park in January and the 4-1 defeat of Brighton & Hove Albion as the Magpies surged towards a Champions League spot in May.

Jones has overseen one Premier League game - Brentford's 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur - and two fixtures in the Europa Conference League already in 2023/24, including Fenerbahce's 3-1 win over Maribor last week.
