Milne-Redhead: 'We can't underestimate anyone'

Written by Joseph Nelson

Newcastle United Women midfielder Cara Milne-Redhead says the Magpies are not taking any opposition for granted, as Becky Langley's team prepare to take on Halifax FC Women at Kingston Park on Sunday.

The Magpies currently sit at the top of the FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division with a lead of five points, having not lost a competitive game in over 12 months.

But they face a Halifax team this Sunday who, despite their league position of tenth, have a history of upsetting the odds in the division.

"It's very much a one-game-at-a-time mentality," said Milne-Redhead, in an interview that will be printed in full in Sunday's Newcastle United Women matchday programme.

"You can't underestimate people in this league. We haven't played Halifax yet but we know that they took points off the top three teams (last season).

"Everyone in this league has something to give and we can't underestimate them at all. We will be thinking about their strengths and where we can exploit them and go from there."

The midfielder, who moved from Coventry United Women in January 2022, is roughly a year into her journey at Newcastle Women.

She says that the environment Langley has created is the greatest she has experienced during her career.

"I think the togetherness in our group is fantastic," she added. "I'd probably say it's the best team I've been in in terms of togetherness.

"We know how competitive it is and when the team comes out and you see yourself not starting or in the 16 it's frustrating. I think that's natural - it would be weird if you weren't.

"But everyone is good at supporting one another. I think the fact that we are so competitive is very good. You are playing against the best players in the league in training. The togetherness is fantastic."

Tickets for Sunday's match are priced at £5 for adults and £1 for under-16s and are available to buy here.

"I think the togetherness in our group is fantastic. I'd probably say it's the best team I've been in in terms of togetherness."
