Officials confirmed for Gunners trip

David Coote will referee Newcastle United’s Premier League game at Arsenal on Monday night (8pm kick-off).

United head to the capital for the second time this month, following their 2-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, 9th January in the third round of the FA Cup.

And Coote has been confirmed as the referee for the fixture as the Magpies look to arrest their recent slump in form – and claim a first win of 2021 in the process.

It will be the Nottinghamshire official’s second appointment involving Newcastle so far this season, which has seen him take charge of matches in the top flight, Championship, FA Cup and internationally, in the UEFA Nations League. He also took charge of United's 3-1 home win against Burnley.

Coote – who was promoted to the FIFA list of referees last year having established himself as a Premier League regular – is yet to keep his cards pocketed this term, though, having dished out a total of 50 yellow cards and two reds in his 13 previous outings since the start of the campaign in September 2020.

Marc Perry and Nick Hopton will assist Coote in north London, with Graham Scott named as the fourth official.

And Peter Bankes will fill the role of VAR, with Sian Massey-Ellis set to assist him for the Magpies’ clash with Mikel Arteta’s men.
