Pre-season preparations approaching for Newcastle United Women

Written by Joseph Nelson

Newcastle United Women will begin their pre-season preparations on Tuesday, as Becky Langley's side look to build on a historic 2021/22 campaign.

Last term, the Lady Magpies finished second in the FA Women's National League (FAWNL) Division One North and played their first-ever fixture at St. James' Park, and will hope to kick on in 2022/23.

Langley will put her players through their paces on Tuesday as the countdown towards the Sunday, 21st August curtain-raiser begins.

This week the official FAWNL constitution for next season was confirmed, and fixtures are due to be released soon.

Striker Katie Barker, who finished as the FAWNL Division One North's top scorer last season, is looking forward to pre-season.

She said: "I can't wait to get back at it and for the season to start again. We have big aspirations as always, and we will work hard to achieve them.

"On a personal note, I really want to build on last season and achieve more this season."

Langley shares Barker's ambitions, with the manager adding: "This season is going to be another challenge, but a challenge we are raring for. We've gained great experience from last season, and the squad and staff team will be a powerful set-up going into next season.

"Recruitment is strong and the learning we have done will accelerate our progress even further."

The Newcastle Women boss added her appreciation for the support of Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley.

She said: "Amanda empowering me as a female coach and her backing towards me as a female leader has been key. She has given me the confidence to really kick on next season."

The countdown to the beginning of FAWNL season is now on, and Langley and her staff will be working diligently to ensure the Lady Mags hit the ground running next term.
