More than 3,000 tickets sold for Southampton

Newcastle United will be backed by more than 3,000 fans on their 650-mile round-trip to Southampton on Saturday.

The Magpies make the long trip to the South Coast for a 3pm (GMT) kick-off at St. Mary's, and after the initial away allocation of 2,300 sold out last month, sales closed with 3,051 tickets snapped up by the Toon Army.

United came from behind to beat the Saints 2-1 at St. James' Park in December, with Jonjo Shelvey cancelling out Danny Ings' opener before Federico Fernández's late winner.

No children under the age of two will be admitted at St. Mary's, while all under-14s must be accompanied by an adult (18 and above).

Newcastle were backed by 5,000 fans in their FA Cup tie at West Bromwich Albion in midweek and Fernández, speaking to NUFC TV on Friday, said such support is a huge motivation for him and his team-mates.

"It's a lot," he said. "Since I arrived at Newcastle, I've seen the passion of the fans. They show it every single week. As a player, to have these kind of fans is massive. It's really good to see, especially away from home.

"You feel that they are there. They travel a long, long way so you play for them."
