St. James' Park to host games at UEFA Euro 2028

St. James' Park will host games at UEFA Euro 2028 as part of the UK and Ireland's five-association partnership to host the international tournament.

The 52,000 seater home of Newcastle United has been chosen as one of ten stadiums in the successful bid to host the tournament, which will take place in the summer of 2028.

UEFA Euro 2028 UK & Ireland will be the largest major sporting event the nations have ever jointly staged with the bid successful thanks to its clear and compelling vision to help domestic and European football grow a more diverse and inclusive game, connect with new audiences and inspire the next generation of players, fans and volunteers. The UK and Ireland expressed this vision as 'Football for all. Football for good. Football for the future'.

Commenting on Newcastle's successful bid to be a host city, Newcastle United CEO Darren Eales said: "Newcastle is a special city with football at the heart of its community from Newcastle United to grassroots clubs.

"To have UEFA Euro 2028 games in our city is exciting not only for football fans but for the economy, businesses and the entire region. To be awarded the status as a host city is the result of great collaboration between the football club and Newcastle City Council along with great support from North of Tyne Combined Authority, all playing key roles in delivering this achievement for the North East."

The UK and Ireland was also awarded the tournament based on the nations' collective wealth of operational experience and world-class technical facilities - with a long track-record of staging successful major sporting events, including the ground-breaking UEFA Women's Euro 2022.
