Stobbs praises Magpies fans ahead of Rams visit

United defeated Burnley 3-0 away from home last weekend to extend their lead at the top of the Women's National League Northern Premier Division to seven points, and return to Kingston Park unbeaten in their last three matches.

And skipper Stobbs admits it's the Geordie fans who continue to motivate her and her teammates as they bid for a second successive promotion.

"I can't describe what it's like in the warm-ups, and I say to the girls, 'listen to that'," she told nufc.co.uk.

"If we don't feel confident going into a game with that backing from the club, the fans and from our own teammates, it's just amazing."

Becky Langley's side required a Bridget Galloway strike in first half added time to squeeze past Derby in the reverse fixture in September.

Stobbs believes the Magpies have made progress in past five months, having won nine of their 11 league outings since they last faced the Rams.

"Since that Derby game, we've grown as a team," she said.

"So I feel like it will be a good time to reflect on how far we've come since we last played them."

She added: "As every game comes we prepare for it the same, whether it's someone we beat 1-0, someone we drew with or someone we lost against, so every game is the same."

United's current record attendance at Kingston Park came in November, when a crowd of 4,172 turned out for their 5-0 win over Stourbridge.

And Newcastle's captain has called on all Geordie fans to turn up on Sunday as her side look to make it four wins in a row in all competitions.

"Get everyone down to Kingston Park!" Stobbs exclaimed.

"For myself, I’ve been at quite a few clubs, but getting 2,600 to 2,800 for home games is just mint, in a Geordie way."

Newcastle United Women will return to St. James' Park for their FA Women's National League Cup semi-final against Portsmouth Women on Sunday, 25th February (kick-off 2pm GMT).
