Team news: Almirón starts against Hammers

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has brought Miguel Almirón back into the Magpies’ starting 11 for their clash with West Ham after the Paraguayan netted having come off the bench at Bournemouth in midweek.

The 26-year-old came on in place of the injured Sean Longstaff against the Cherries, and bagged United’s third of the evening in their eventual 4-1 rout of Eddie Howe’s side.

And Almirón has been rewarded with a place in the starting line-up for the visit of the Hammers, with head coach Bruce also bringing Isaac Hayden back into the team at the expense of Nabil Bentaleb.

That means Martin Dúbravka continues in goal, with an unchanged backline comprising Emil Krafth, captain Jamaal Lascelles, Federico Fernández and Javier Manquillo in front of him.

Jonjo Shelvey partners Hayden in the middle of the park, while Almirón will provide support for Newcastle’s three-pronged frontline of Allan Saint-Maximin, Dwight Gayle and Joelinton.

Bruce has plenty of potential game-changers to call upon from the bench, too, with Matt Ritchie, Andy Carroll and Valentino Lazaro – who netted his first Premier League goal in midweek – all named along the substitutes.

Fabian Schär, DeAndre Yedlin, Danny Rose, Bentaleb, Matty Longstaff and Karl Darlow complete the list of substitutes for the clash with David Moyes’ men.

Newcastle United: Martin Dúbravka; Emil Krafth, Jamaal Lascelles, Federico Fernández, Javier Manquillo; Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden, Miguel Almirón; Allan Saint-Maximin, Dwight Gayle, Joelinton.

Substitutes: Karl Darlow, DeAndre Yedlin, Fabian Schär, Danny Rose, Nabil Bentaleb, Matty Longstaff, Valentino Lazaro, Matt Ritchie, Andy Carroll.
