Team news: Barnes makes St. James' Park bow against Villarreal

Harvey Barnes will make his first appearance at St. James' Park as a Newcastle United player when the Magpies take on Villarreal in the Sela Cup, presented by VisitMalta.

The summer signing from Leicester played twice at the Premier League Summer Series in the USA last month, but plays on home soil for the first time in Sunday's 16:00 BST kick-off.

Eddie Howe names a totally different starting XI to the previous day's 2-0 victory against Fiorentina, with the Magpies knowing that a win or draw will see them lift the trophy at the end of the day.

Nick Pope starts in goal, while Jacob Murphy looks set to start at right-back. Jamaal Lascelles captains the side, partnering Paul Dummett in central defence, with Dan Burn at left-back.

Sean Longstaff returns from injury to take his place in midfield, where he will be joined by Bruno Guimarães and Matt Ritchie, with Barnes and Joelinton supporting last season's leading goalscorer, Callum Wilson

Mark Gillespie is the substitute goalkeeper and is joined by a host of United's young prospects on the bench - including Ben Parkinson, Jay Turner-Cooke and Michael Ndiweni, who all came on against Fiorentina on Saturday.

Newcastle United: Nick Pope, Jacob Murphy, Jamaal Lascelles (c), Paul Dummett, Dan Burn, Matt Ritchie, Sean Longstaff, Bruno Guimarães, Harvey Barnes, Joelinton, Callum Wilson

Substitutes: Mark Gillespie, Nathan Carlyon, Remi Savage, Jordan Hackett, Charlie McArthur, Lucas De Bolle, Jamie Miley, James Huntley, Jay Turner-Cooke, Amadou Diallo, Michael Ndiweni, Ben Parkinson
